Managing Coronavirus Anxieties: Self-Care & Mental Health Tips



Over the past few weeks the Coronavirus outbreak has caused many to feel confusion, anxious and fearful. Many people feel out of control and are not sure what to do in the midst of this chaos. It’s during times like these that it is important more than ever to maintain our mental-health. Here are some self-care and mental health tips to manage Coronavirus anxieties:


Limit Information Intake

Take a break from scrolling through your feed, reading articles and watching videos on the Coronavirus. With so much misinformation out there, it can feel confusing to read and hear so many mixed messages. Although it is important to stay informed on current updates on the Coronavirus, try to limit checking the news to just once a day and make sure you are getting information from reputable sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization.


Find Community

Take extra time and effort to maintain connections. Social distancing and telecommuting can contribute to feelings of isolation when right now we need community more than ever. Take time to touch base with friends and family via text messages, phone calls or Facetime. Talking it out can curb anxieties, bring comfort and validate feelings.


Get outside

Although it is recommended we practice social distancing, it is still possible to go outside to breathe in fresh air and be in nature. Going for a walk can create a much needed mental mental break.


Help Others

Helping others has been scientifically proven to reduce stress levels. Focusing on others’ needs is also a great way to distract yourself while also doing something positive. It’s a win-win!
