4 Ways to Quickly Stop a Panic Attack

An extreme form of anxiety is called a panic attack: a sudden and intense fear/anxiety that triggers severe physical reactions. While having anxiety from time-to-time may be normal for most individuals, chronic anxiety can greatly interfere with your quality of life.

Panic attacks are caused by an unbalanced brain. During a panic attack, your brain is flooded with chemicals, and as a result, your body reacts in an extreme way. This is a crisis situation, and what your body wants to do is eliminate the feelings you are feeling.

When someone is having a panic attack, fear escalates and you usually want to stop breathing. To stop panic attacks, you want to do the opposite of this innate intention, and instead, find a mellowing, meditating peace.

So how do you do this? The quicker you can balance your brain, the quicker you can regain control and stop the panic attack. This can be done physiologically; here are 4 ways to quickly stop a panic attack:

#1 Find a chair, sit down and put your head between your legs.

This bent over motion will help get blood to your brain, fast. Breathe in slowly and this will help to rebalance your brain.

#2 Jog in place or move your arms in a circular motion

Any bilateral stimulation (moving from left to right, to left to right) also helps to rebalance your brain and lowers panicked feelings.

#3 Stick your hand in ice cold water for 30 seconds

This will slow your heart rate and give your body the feeling of a diving sensation. After holding your hand in ice cold water for 30 seconds, the panic attack should dissipate.

#4 Breathe slowly

Inhale into your belly and exhale out slowly five times, By the fifth time, you should be able to control the symptoms of the panic attack.
