Therapy is not a neutral process and this is why it is important to find a therapist that you like and feel comfortable with. Our therapists will discuss the process with you, the roles of therapist and client and answer any questions that you might have. We come from a variety of psychological orientations including: cognitive behavioral therapy, experiential, psychodynamic, narrative and client centered. We also offer crisis counseling and brief solution focused therapy.
Your first session is designed to gather information about you, why you are seeking therapy and to discuss what to expect in therapy. Your therapist will ask you questions about your life, family and past history. You can answer only questions that you feel comfortable with. It may help to create a list of questions, areas you would like to work on and anything that you are worried or concerned about and bring it to the first session. If you are taking any medications please write down the name and dosage. Also, bring the names and numbers of the doctor(s) who are writing the prescription. If you or your child has had any psychological testing please bring copies of the results or reports and the name and contact information of the person administering the test.
